Day 1

Arriving amid adventure.

Excitement grows with the elevation. The serpentine road takes us higher and higher. The closer we get to the sun, the brighter our excitement shines. We cannot wait for the exhilaration and ease we are promised in Fiss. And indeed, the exaltation that washes over us as we arrive exceeds our expectations. It’s our first time at Schlosshotel Fiss, yet the welcome feels familiar. The reception takes care of our luggage while we enjoy a delicious welcome drink on the terrace. We breathe in the fresh mountain air and let go. The children explore the hotel’s playground and we follow the brisk mountain breeze on our first walk across the fascinating hotel grounds. We stop to let our eyes wander – and cannot help but smile. Can you believe this beauty? All of these impressions make us hungry – hungry for more and hungry for the meals and treats beautifully plated at the SHF afternoon buffet. Service is slick and smooth, with just the right balance of familiarity and formality. Relaxed and replenished we make plans for the upcoming days. Next up is a hotel tour. Elegant style and elevated harmony radiate throughout and let us know: this is where we are meant to be! Our youngest, Sophie, decides to lounge at the fireplace as the rest of the family continues exploring. Here, at 1,438 metres above the sea level, everything seems possible …

Water and waves of joy wash over us. The Aqua Monte water world is an aesthetic marvel – and like a magnet for our children! Sophie, Leo, and Constantin are eager to test the 48-metre-long water slide they read about on the hotel’s website. Next up, they want to visit the SHF Kids Club and the SHF Teenagers Room. They are curious about all the action and adventure promised to await them – and they are not disappointed! At dinner, they brim over with excitement about all the action and activities – and the new friends they have already been able to make. But what about the mysterious egg box they brought from the SHF Kids Club? I guess, we’ll have to find out later.

This is only our first day here. We cannot believe we only just arrived. Everything feels so familiar, relaxed, and easy. The food is amazing – and the service is impeccable. Chef Mathias Seidel and Kitchen Manager Michael Angerer have a gift for preserving the natural taste of the freshest, most vibrant seasonal ingredients. The children’s buffet is of the highest quality, and everything is selected with the greatest of care and consideration – simply impressive. And then, there’s the SUPER. SUMMER. CARD. with all its deals and discounts. We are enthralled – and excited for what’s to come.

Day 2

Magical memories.

How young witches and wizards get off to a marvellous start. We let the first sunbeams of the day tickle us awake – and it feels just as dreamy as it sounds. And the panoramic view unfurling in front of our terrace is just as grand as the adventures ahead of us. Speaking of grand, the breakfast abounds with deliciousness: freshly squeezed orange juice and well-balanced smoothies, omelettes prepared in the show kitchen according to our taste buds, fluffy pancakes, and assorted mueslis. A lot of what is served stems from the region, including cheese and milk from the Gasslbauer farm in Ladis, jams from the Maass distillery in Prutz, and herbs from the mountains … Our breakfast provides us with all the energy we need for a truly magical adventure: the Witch Trail takes us into a world of wondrous stories, appearances, and riddles. Our journey begins directly at the Schlosshotel. We reach the lift station in just a few minutes. From the Schönjochbahn middle station, we make our way through thick forests to the Kuh Alm hut. And there it is: the charming witch’s cottage, our destination. Once Constantin, Leo, and Sophie have solved all of Peppina Witch’s mysteries, they are rewarded with a certificate – and a whole collection of magical memories we can all share in.

Adventures for the kids and alone-time for us. Back at the hotel, two different worlds await: action on the trampoline and in the SHF Teenagers Room and relaxation at the Aqua Monte water world with its panorama pool, 250 square metres wide and 37 metres long. And there is even more: an outdoor pool whose water wraps us in soothing warmth in front of dazzling mountain views, a variety of saunas, and a spa stretching across 5,000 square metres. This hotel has everything that makes a holiday a holiday. And what’s best: we have plenty of time to savour it all. For now, we soak in the soft light of a superb sundown before the gourmet highlight of the day.

Day 3

Diving into the Hög adventures.

Playfulness and ease combine at Lake Högsee. Our adventure begins with the Serfaus underground train taking us to the Alpkopfbahnlift. But we aim even higher and let the gondola conveniently transport us to an elevation of 1,829 metres. Here, at the middle station, the Hög adventure park holds an array of family attractions, skill games, mazes, and more: a giant milk churn game, a cowpat trampoline, and a wooden marble run will forever stay in our memories. The creative games also make us curious about the surrounding fields and forests. But before we embark on our next journey, we want to know: can Leo and Sophie master the water maze without getting wet? Of course, they can! But they decide to get wet after all and run off in different directions to fetch a pedal boat and climb the diving platform while my husband and I relish the ravishing beauty of the surrounding mountains.

The Schneisenfeger coaster makes for an adrenaline-fuelled finale. It’s like a mountain rollercoaster, except you can take the wheel yourself. Fasten your seatbelt and prepare for four minutes of family fun. The coaster has us breezing down steep mountain slopes at 40 kilometres per hour. Leo and Constantin decide to go by themselves while Sophie rides along with her dad. We are surprised by all the switchbacks and a thrilling 360-degree spin – and by how easy and safe it all is. It’s so much fun we want to do it all over again, and we agree: why not?

Where water can be experienced anew. Not quite as high up on the mountain but no less impressive, the Aqua Monte and Splash waterscapes hold a completely new experience of the element of water. The children are free to splash around, slide down, and laugh out loud. And we can sit back and relax, close our eyes and take in the spellbinding scent of Alpine aromas – whether in the sauna, Jacuzzi, or steam bath. The children have long forgotten the time, and now it’s time for my husband and I to follow suit.

We relax and revitalise, with the power of the Alps. What better way to top off the experience than by treating ourselves to a soothing massage? Facial treatment or singing bowl ceremony? The opportunities offered at the SHF Spa to activate our inner strength, realign body and soul, wind down, and refresh our senses are plentiful. But they have one thing in common: they feel incredibly good!

Day 4

Exploring the mountains on two wheels.

The mountains call and guide our hearts to pure bliss. With our feet on the pedals and our eyes set on the mountain peaks, we climb higher and higher. And so does our motivation to reach the top. E-biking makes it easier than ever to conquer mountains. My husband Lukas is amazed as I pull ahead, and he has to pedal harder to catch up with me. In the end, we arrive together. What a great decision to embark on this adventure – just the two of us! And the hotel’s sports shop made it a breeze. While the kids left to spend the morning at the SHF Kids Club, we got advised and equipped by the Bacher Sports experts and were ready to head out in no time. Now, looking down from the Schönjoch mountain top, we know we want to come back here. Next time, we’ll book a guided family trip so our kids get a chance to experience this incredible feeling with us. And one day, I’ll even go down a single trail. There’s plenty of those here in the mountains, from easy beginner trails to real challenges. Taking it up a notch at the Serfaus-Fiss Ladis bike park. To increase the fun and our skills, we choose the local bike park for our after - noon activity. Once we’ve replenished ourselves with new energy at the after - noon buffet, we hop back on our bikes with the children. At the bike park, they have classes for children from the age of 4 to teach them the ropes of biking the fun way. And Lukas and I enjoy learning new skills and techniques during our own private course. Seems like I’ll be ready for my first single trail sooner than I thought. So, when the children ask if we can go on the Milky Way beginner trail together, we’re all in! The Hill Bill challenge is on my list for next time …

The Village Fountain Festival tops off the day. Today’s been packed with adventure. Should we end the day with a quiet sauna or mingle in the village? We feel energised from all the sporty activity today and so we decide to go out: our new acquaintances recommended the Village Fountain Festival. And indeed, we’re happy we went out after all! Getting a glimpse of Tyrolean culture and a taste of the local delicacies while dancing to traditional music makes this balmy summer evening unforgettable. And there’s even more events waiting for us, like Magic Ladis or the Lange Nacht in Serfaus. Three days to go and we’ve made so many memories already.

Day 5

Getting to love bad-weather days.

Highlights await both indoors and outdoors. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is called a sunny plateau not without reason! With over 2,000 hours of sunshine every year the region is among the sunniest in all of the Tyrol. Rain is still a possibility – and it’s a great chance to explore the region’s impressive indoor attractions. The PlayIN Serfaus promises heaps of fun with twelve different climbing walls and towers, a laser labyrinth, and more. And it can be easily reached by one of the nearby lifts, by hiking shuttle, or by underground. We opt for the Waldbahn lift and can’t believe how much fun we actually have – and I’m not just speaking about the kids.

The forest holds a world full of mysteries. Despite all the indoor adventures, the rain can’t keep us from exploring the beauty of the mystic forests surrounding the hotel. Later that day, we decide to go for a walk and immerse ourselves in the mystic scenery created by the dense fog. Umbrellas are available at the hotel and once we return, we treat ourselves to some fragrant hot chocolate at the SHF Bar. The children cannot wait to get back to the SHF Kids Club to do some crafts and play. Time for us to hop in a sauna or take a hot bath at the SHF Spa! And then, we all enjoy some family spa time. The kids have fun with the child-friendly body scrubs and then get in some more action on the water slide. We’re so relaxed and happy I almost wish for another bad-weather day.

Day 6

Venturing into a wonder world of wellness.

New friends and new adventures to meet every day. Sophie, Leo, and Constantin have made a lot of friends at the SHF Kids Club, and they’ve told them about their adventures. Now, they want to explore more of the local theme walks. They’ve heard about pirates and explorers, about geocaching experiences, and secret riddles that need to be solved in the mountains. And off we go!

Hiking guide Christian knows his way around. Reminding me of our stunning biking trip, Lukas suggests booking the SHF hiking guide for a family adventure. He met him the previous evening for a chat and was impressed by his knowledge. Now, do we want to climb the impressive Zwölferkopf mountain or let the majestic Furgler inspire us to conquer a 3,000-metre summit overlooking the sunny plateau? In the end, we decide to go gentle today and opt for the Alpenrosenwanderung with a stop at the Frommeskreuz. The scenic trip starts at 2,436 metres and takes us straight into paradise.

Our first hike & bike experience begins. We are enthralled by the combination of hiking, relaxing, and biking. It’s like a best of the Tyrolean mountains. The concept is simple: after a slow hike and a rewarding break at an Alpine hut, we take the bike back down to the valley. We enjoy the cool breeze on our cheeks, the surrounding mountain peaks, and can’t help but smile – because we know we’ll remember this family outing forever.

Day 7

Packing a backpack full of memories.

The Möseralm experience is more than just fun! With so many highlights it’s not easy to save the best for last. However, the Möseralm fun park must not be missed! At 1,812 metres above sea level, a world of adventure and action turns another of our holidays into an event. Spectacular views and nature included. At the petting zoo, Sophie and Leo feed the cuddly bunnies and befriend little lambs and ponies. Constantin, Lukas, and I get our adrenaline flowing and jump from the 13 metres jumping tower into a gigantic air bag. Then, Constantin and I try the Skyswing and the Fisser Flieger, which has us flying 47 metres above the ground at 80 kilometres per hour. What an experience! The water play ground and different games are so much fun we can’t believe there’s even more waiting for us:

The finish on the Fisser Flitzer. Not to be mistaken for the Fisser Flieger, which allows you to soar over the summer mountains like an eagle, the Fisser Flitzer alpine coaster ensures a swift descent into the valley. At up to 45 kilometres per hour we zoom along exciting straights and curves, through an ice cave, a dinosaur tunnel, a jungle, and even the spellbound pirate ship. I wish I could have seen our children’s faces in the horror tunnel when I learn there was a photo taken on-ride. The perfect souvenir!

Going a week without a car? Pure relaxation! Our car has remained parked safely in the SHF garage all week long. We’ve enjoyed a whole week without getting in the car even once. It’s been pure freedom and so relaxing we almost forgot we arrived by car. But now it’s time to pack our luggage and prepare for our journey back home.

But we’re not quite ready to leave just yet. We want to make the most of our last few hours at Schlosshotel Fiss. How about a stroll through the enchanting village to Lake Wolfsee and its fabulous playground? Or, some more magical moments at Aqua Monte and Splash? At every corner, we snap another picture to capture the beauty of this place and the time we’ve spent here together. Sophie, Leo, and Constantin say good-bye to their friends and make plans for their next adventures here in Fiss. I look at Lukas: “What do you think when we’ll be back?” “It sure won’t be long!”, he smiles and reaches for my hand. And we can’t be happier.

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is pure mountain magic. One memorable moment of happiness for the whole family. A vibrant place of variety we’ve never experienced before. One week is not enough to discover it all. And that’s a good thing. Because my heart, my husband’s calmness, and the spark in our children’s eyes say: this is our paradise. How lucky we are to have found it – and to soon return.
